Protecting Our Environment
Sharif understands that being a responsible steward of the earth and promoting a successful business environment are not mutually exclusive. The clean energy sector is growing rapidly in Pennsylvania and allowing for the creation of thousands of jobs. We must continue to invest in electric vehicle infrastructure, specifically fast-charging highway stations, electric-fleet vehicles, and hydrogen fuel cell technology.
INVESTING IN CLEAN CAR INFRASTRUCTURE ACROSS THE STATE
The clean energy sector is growing rapidly in Pennsylvania and allowing for the creation of thousands of jobs. We must continue to invest in electric vehicle infrastructure, specifically fast-charging highway stations, electric-fleet vehicles, and hydrogen fuel cell technology. Sharif believes these investments would decidedly ensure a safer and cleaner environment for all Pennsylvanians and make an indelible impact on public health.
CREATE A ROADMAP TO 100% RENEWABLE ENERGY BY 2050
Sharif supports legislation which will put Pennsylvania on a track to using 100% renewable energy by 2050. Moving to fully renewable energy is important to the health of our planet, but we cannot do it responsibly without a plan. This legislation would effect necessary change by creating jobs, establishing clean-air standards and giving academic institutions the opportunity to advance new fields of technology – gradually over an acceptable period of time. Sharif understands that Pennsylvanian’s deserve clean air and access to reliable employment.
MODERNIZE OUR ELECTRICAL GRID
The electric grid powers our hospitals, homes, schools, and offices. But with new technological advances, and contemporary innovations, an update is certainly necessary. The electric grid currently only generates power on one end, while a modernized grid would create a two-way system of communication. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, a modernized grid could lower energy bills, provide more energy choices and result in fewer and shorter power outages. Grid modernization will not be easy, but we need to make it a priority because it will increase employment opportunities, keep up with current technological advances, and ensure a reliable source of power for all Pennsylvanians.
REQUIRE STRICTER STANDARDS FOR THE INSPECTION AND UPKEEP OF PIPELINES IN PA
Sharif understands that natural gas is an important bridge fuel on our roadmap to 100% renewables by 2050. It is a domestic energy source that creates jobs right here in Pennsylvnania, and it is cleaner than oil and coal, emitting 50% less carbon dioxide than other fossil fuels when it is consumed. However, we also know that when natural gas leakes into the atmosphere as methane, it can be 70 more harmful than carbon dioxide. As long as we continue to drill natural gas in PA, we must make sure it is done correctly. We must maintain high standards for the inspection and upkeep of gas pipe infrasturcture which will keep us safe, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and create jobs.
